LIN Transceiver/Voltage Regulator Suits In-Vehicle Networking

Staff  |   ED Online ID #16814  |   September 14, 2007

By integrating local interconnect network (LIN) transceiver and voltage regulator functions into a low-power, mixed-signal chip, the AMIS-40615 (3.3 V) and AMIS-40616 (5.0 V) hike reliability while cutting component count in LIN-based in-vehicle networking applications. These AMI Semiconductor devices provide an interface between the LIN protocol controller and the physical bus. The LIN transceiver delivers transmission rates to 20 kbaud, complies with LIN v2.0, and is backward-compatible with previous versions of the LIN specification. The chips withstand harsh automotive applications in accordance with TS16949 and are rated for temperatures of –40°C to 105°C. They are well-suited for applications such as remote keyless entry, electronic steering locks, alarms, window controls, mirror positioning, and seat movement. Both devices can supply an external current of up to 30 mA.

The use of a standard CMOS 0.35-µm mixed-signal SmartPower technology enables both high-voltage analog circuitry and a dense digital functionality to co-exist in one chip. The SmartPower technology also fully protects the devices against load dump to 45 V, electrostatic discharge to ±8 kV, and other transients that occur in the automotive environment. Other features include indefinite short-circuit protection between supply and ground, a thermal shutdown capability, and an integrated slope-control function to ensure low electromagnetic emission. Enable inputs for standby and sleep modes ensure minimum power consumption when the devices aren’t operating. Wakeup input commands can be via either the LIN bus or a dedicated wakeup pin. An INH output controls auxiliary functions like external regulators or the switching of external pull-up resistors. The AMIS-40615 and AMIS-40616 come in 14-pin small-outline IC (SOIC) packages.

PRICING AND AVAILABILITY

The AMIS-40615 and AMIS-40616 cost $0.73 each in volumes up to 5000. Contact the company for availability information.
