PMC-Based Interface Handles High- Or Low-Speed CAN

Staff  |   ED Online ID #17479  |   November 2, 2007

A PMC-based CAN interface, the iPC-I XC16/PMC from IXXAT Automation GmbH, can handle demanding CAN applications like industrial control and automotive test stands. It supports the 32-bit PMC bus and can be used in 3.3- or 5-V systems. The 16-bit onboard microcontroller performs filtering; pre-processing; time-triggered transmission; and high-precision time stamping of CAN messages. The interface can be used as a master device in CANopen systems with a large number of nodes.

The board's two CAN channels can be software-switched between high- and low-speed CAN. Both channels are galvanically isolated. In combination with the included CAN driver, the iPC-I XC16/PMC permits seamless integration of PC-supported CAN applications. In addition, the interface is well-suited for use with the company’s analysis and configuration tools.
