Comsys Communication and Signal Processing announced at the Mobile World Congress its roadmap for enhancing its line of 4G processors and solutions.

As part of the plan, the company will expand its ComMAX product line of full Mobile WiMAX baseband processors with the CM1265, which integrates WLAN in addition to GSM/EDGE and the latest Mobile WiMAX profiles.

The CM1265 joins the CM1100 full mobile WiMAX baseband processor and the CM1125 integrated multimode GSM/WiMAX baseband processor. It will support Mobile WiMAX Release 1.x TDD and FDD profiles, and will integrate GSM/EDGE and WLAN (802.11b/g/n).

Comsys is also working on its next-generation family of baseband processors focused on 3GPP-LTE. Its CM2000 family of processors will build on the multimode ComMAX architecture to provide handset makers with low-power 3GPP-LTE baseband processors.

"Our customers wish to see a clear path to an integrated 4G solution," Elkana ben-Sinai, CEO of Comsys, said in a statement. "By developing the roadmap from our CM1125 converged Mobile WiMAX/cellular offering towards a chip that combines all the major standards consumers will expect on their 4G handsets, we are enabling the device manufacturers to accelerate their time-to-market for these terminals."

The ComMAX family of baseband processors enables service continuity between cellular and Mobile WiMAX (IEEE 802.16e) networks. ComMAX gives manufacturers of multimode mobile WiMAX terminals a broadband solution that is fully compliant with WiMAX Forum Wave 2 requirements.
