ED News Staff  |   ED Online ID #18797  |   April 23, 2008

After more than 60 years at the helm of the company he founded in 1947, Eric Lidow will retire as chairman and member of the board of directors of International Rectifier Corp. effective May 1. Lidow transformed the start-up company, which developed selenium photoelectric cells and selenium rectifiers, into a leader in power management technology. Today, the company produces thousands of analog, digital, and mixed-signal ICs and other advanced power management technologies and products.

“The development and growth of International Rectifier has been a great source of pride to me,” said Lidow. “While I am passionate about the technology, people are the vital ingredient. As the power management industry continues to evolve, I have great confidence in the company’s technology roadmap and in the management team’s ability to execute the strategy established to take the company forward.”

Speaking on behalf of the board of directors, president and CEO Oleg Khaykin said, “Eric is one of the most respected pioneers in the power semiconductor industry. His long-standing commitment to the employees and customers of International Rectifier has been crucial to our progress over the decades. As we continue to grow as a company, the legacy of Eric’s leadership during his 60 years at IR will remain.”

The company also announced that Richard J. Dahl, who joined the board of directors in February, had been named chairman, effective May 1. Dahl, 56, has served as a director of IHOP Corp. since 2004, where he heads the Audit Committee and was chairman of the Special Committee of the Board formed to oversee IHOP’s successful bid to acquire Applebee’s International.

His executive experience includes serving as president and chief operating officer of the Dole Food Co. and of the Bank of Hawaii Corp. Dahl, a former CPA with Ernst & Young, has extensive business experience in Asia, the Pacific Basin, and Europe.
