Ostendo Technologies Inc. is using OSTAR-Projection LED modules from OSRAM Opto Semiconductors to backlight a new ultra-wide curved display. The compact OSTAR-Projection modules used in the DLP-based CRVD screen consist of six RGB LED chips that use OSRAM’s Thinfilm and ThinGaN chip architecture.

The CRVD curved display measures 42.4 in. diagonally and provides a 2880- by 900-pixel resolution (double WXGA+). The display wraps around the viewer while serving up billions of colors, greater than 300 nits brightness, and a contrast ratio of more than 10,000:1. It is well-suited for applications such as simulation, gaming, financial analysis, digital imaging, web-content creation, or any desktop computing application that benefits from significant amounts of seamless real estate.

“It’s an incredible display,” said Tom Shottes, president and CEO of OSRAM Opto Semiconductors. “This is the first display that provides such a wide field of view with such dynamic range and wide color gamut. We’ve worked with Ostendo since they began developing the technology. The high luminance and design flexibility of our OSTAR-Projection technology was a perfect fit.”
