POL Series Tackles Tough Temperature Ranges

Staff  |   ED Online ID #21268  |   May 21, 2009

Power-One Inc. has expanded its YEV series of 3-, 6-, and 10-A vertically mounted point-of-load (POL) dc-dc converters to offer an extended operating temperature range option of –40°C to 85°C, allowing these devices to be used in commercial applications as well as telecom applications that otherwise may have environmentally challenging temperature conditions.

These converters use advanced topologies to deliver up to 94% efficient power conversion in communications and server applications. They also reduce the number of model numbers needed in inventory by combining wide input ranges, 4.5 to 13.8 V, with user-defined 0.6- to 5.1-V outputs. Additionally, they can start up into pre-biased loads. And, there’s no minimum-load operation.

The new models boast a UL94 V-0 flammability rating, an Enable input interface capability, and low-noise fixed-frequency topologies. They also use an industry-standard 0.41- by 0.40-in. industry-standard SIP footprint and are 0.65 in. tall. Protection includes overcurrent and output overvoltage with automatic restart. Safety agency approvals include UL/CSA 60950-1, EN 60950-1, and IEC EN 60950-1.

Evaluation models are usually available from stock. Contact the company for pricing and availability.
