Joseph Desposito
Joe Desposito has held the position of editor-in-chief of Electronic Design since July, 2007. He first joined the publication in 1998 as a technology editor covering test and measurement but quickly expanded his coverage areas to include communications and consumer electronics. In May, 2000 Joe moved to sister publication, EE Product News, as editor-in-chief, overseeing the transition of that publication from print to web only and developing e-newsletters and a companion digital publication called eepn2.
Prior to that, Joe worked as a project leader in PC Magazine’s renowned PC Labs and was one of four team members on the original PC Labs staff. In this capacity, he worked to develop the PC Labs benchmark tests for PC hardware and software. Joe holds a BEE from Manhattan College and has written many articles and several books on computers and electronics.
Mat Dirjish
Mat Dirjish is the Power/Components/Interconnects/Packaging & Optoelectronics Editor. Prior to joining Electronic Design he was a Technology Editor for EE Product New and before that he covered test & measurement and computer boards, embedded systems & software as an Associate Editor at Electronic Products magazine. Before entering the world of tech editing, Mat spent many years in the high-end audio and musical electronics field doing design, modification, service, and custom installation work.
Louis E. Frenzel
Lou Frenzel is the Communications Technology Editor for Electronic Design Magazine where he writes articles, columns, blogs, technology reports, and online material on the wireless, communications and networking sectors. Lou has been with the magazine since 2005 and is also editor for Mobile Dev & Design online magazine.
Formerly, Lou was professor and department head at Austin Community College where he taught electronics for 5 years and occasionally teaches an Adjunct Professor. Lou has 25+ years experience in the electronics industry. He held VP positions at Heathkit and McGraw Hill. He holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Houston and a master’s degree from the University of Maryland. He is author of 20 books on computer and electronic subjects.
Lou Frenzel was born in Galveston, Texas and currently lives with his wife Joan in Austin, Texas. He is a long-time amateur radio operator (W5LEF).
Richard Gawel
Richard Gawel is the managing editor of Electronic Design as well as Electronic Design Europe and Mobile Dev & Design. He began working for Electronic Design in November 1998. He has a BA in English from Rutgers University, New Brunswick, N.J.
David Maliniak
David Maliniak is the editor for the Test & Measurement and EDA sections of Electronic Design Magazine and Electronicdesign.com. He is a 28-year veteran of the EOEM press and earned a B.A in journalism from New York University. David is also an Amateur Radio operator (AD2A).
Don Tuite
Don Tuite covers Analog and Power issues for Electronic Design’s magazine and website. He has a BSEE and an M.S in Technical Communication, and has worked for companies in aerospace, broadcasting, test equipment, semiconductors, publishing, and media relations, focusing on developing insights that link technology, business, and communications. Don is also a ham radio operator (NR7X), private pilot, and motorcycle rider, and he’s not half bad on the 5-string banjo.
Sally Ward-Foxton
Sally Ward-Foxton is Associate Editor of Electronic Design Europe. Her beat covers all areas of the European electronics industry, but she has a particular interest in wireless communications and displays technology. She was previously Features Editor of Components in Electronics magazine and has also worked as a PR Account Director. Based in London, Sally holds a Masters' Degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from the University of Cambridge, UK.
Paul Whytock
Paul Whytock is European Editor for Penton Media's Electronics Division. From his base in London, England, he covers press conferences and industry events throughout the EU for Penton publications and its Engineering TV and Radio services Qualified to HNC Full Technological Certificate standard, Whytock trained as an automotive design engineer with Ford Motor Company prior to entering technical journalism.
William Wong
Bill Wong covers Digital, Embedded, Systems and Software topics at Electronic Design. He writes a number of columns, including Lab Bench and alt.embedded, plus Bill's Workbench hands-on column. Bill is a Georgia Tech alumni with a B.S in Electrical Engineering and a master's degree in computer science for Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey.
He has written a dozen books and was the first Director of PC Labs at PC Magazine. He has worked in the computer and publication industry for almost 40 years and has been with Electronic Design since 2000. He helps run the Mercer Science and Engineering Fair in Mercer County, NJ.

Roger Allan
Roger Allan is a 42-year electronics journalism veteran, and served as Electronic Design's Executive Editor for 15 of those years. He has covered just about every technology beat from semiconductors, components, packaging and power devices, to communications, test and measurement, automotive electronics, robotics, medical electronics, military electronics, and industrial electronics. His specialties include MEMS and nanoelectronics technologies, and he is a frequent contributor to the McGraw Hill Annual Encyclopedia of Science and Technology. He is also a Life Senior Member of the IEEE and holds a BSEE from New York University's School of Engineering and Science.
Sam Davis
Sam Davis is editor-in-chief of Power Electronics Technology magazine and website. He has 18 years experience in electronic engineering design and management, six years in public relations and 25 years as a trade press editor. He holds a BSEE from Case-Western Reserve University, and did graduate work at the same school and UCLA. Sam was the editor for PCIM, the predecessor to Power Electronics Technology, from 1984 to 2004. His engineering experience includes circuit and system design for Litton Systems, Bunker-Ramo, Rocketdyne, and Clevite Corporation.. Design tasks included analog circuits, display systems, power supplies, underwater ordnance systems, and test systems. He also served as a program manager for a Litton Systems Navy program.
Sam is the author of Computer Data Displays, a book published by Prentice-Hall in the U.S. and Japan in 1969. He is also a recipient of the Jesse Neal Award for trade press editorial excellence, and has one patent for naval ship construction that simplifies electronic system integration.
Victoria Fraza Kickham
Victoria Fraza Kickham is a freelance writer covering distribution, manufacturing and supply chain issues. A former Boston-area newspaper reporter, she spent 14 years covering industrial markets for Industrial Distribution magazine. She served as Industrial Distribution’s managing editor from 2000 to 2010. Today, Victoria writes for business-to-business magazines, including Electronic Design and The Electrical Distributor, as well as various industry trade associations and other organizations. Victoria holds a bachelor’s degree in English from the University of New Hampshire and a master’s degree in English from Northeastern University.

Jessy Cavazos is an Industry Manager with the Frost & Sullivan Global Measurement & Instrumentation practice. Tom Curatolo
Tom Curatolo is the director of applications engineering for Vicor Corp. He joined the company in 1989. He holds a BSEE from Worcester Polytechnic Institute, Worcester, Mass.
Rick Downs
The signal chain applications manager for Texas Instruments’ Analog eLab, which provides analog design tools online. He received his BSEE from the University of Arizona and holds four patents. He also has authored more than 45 articles and application notes and has prepared and delivered many seminars on data acquisition.
Darvin Edwards
Darvin Edwards, TI Fellow, manages the SC Packaging modeling team at Texas Instruments. His team is responsible for electrical, thermal, and thermomechanical analysis of new products and package developments. He received his BS in physics from Arizona State University and holds 20 patents. He also has authored or co-authored over 45 papers, articles, and book chapters and has lectured on thermal challenges, modeling, reliability, electrostatic discharge (ESD), and 3D packaging.
Paul Franklin
Paul Franklin is project manager, semiconductor test systems, for Keithley Instruments in Cleveland, Ohio, which is part of the Tektronix test and measurement portfolio. Before joining Keithley in 2000, he gained more than 20 years of measurement and control industry experience as an engineer and a manager with electronic controls and industrial automation firms. He earned his BSEE and MSE degrees at Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland.
Linley Gwennap
Linley Gwennap is the founder and principal analyst of the Linley Group and coauthor of "A Guide to Wireless Handset Processors" and "A Guide to Mobile Processors."
Thomas Kugelstadt
Thomas Kugelstadt is a senior systems engineer with Texas Instruments. He is responsible for defining new, high-performance analog products and developing complete system solutions that detect and condition low-level analog signals in industrial systems. He is a Graduate Engineer from the Frankfurt University of Applied Science.
Guillaume Largillier
Co-founder and chief strategy officer of Stantum, has presented at major industry events such as Siggraph, SID, Microsoft Display Summit, Interactive Displays Conference, and Emerging Display Technologies Conference. He also regularly serves the French Ministry of Research as an expert in his field.
Richard McDonell
Richard McDonell, automated test senior group manager for National Instruments, holds a BSEE from Texas A&M University.
Josh Neland
Josh Neland is a Global Technology Strategist in Dell’s OEM Solutions group, which helps manufacturers use Dell’s products and services as their own. He is responsible for new market research and helping existing OEM customers gauge the impact of emerging technology trends on their businesses. Before joining Dell, Josh worked at various start-ups including Trilogy Software. He holds a B.S. in Computer Engineering from Texas A&M University.
Kevin Parmenter
Kevin Parmenter is the director of advanced technical marketing at Exar for digital power products. He has more than 20 years of experience in the electronics and semiconductor industry, serves as president and on the board of directors of the Power Sources Manufacturers Association (PSMA), www.psma.com, and was the general chair of APEC 2009 (IEEE Applied Power Electronics Conference), www.apec-conf.org. A member of the IEEE, he has an Amateur Extra class FCC license (call sign KG5Q) and an FCC Commercial Radiotelephone license. Kevin holds a BSEE and BS in business administration.
Rob Reeder
Rob Reeder is currently a senior converter application engineer working for Analog Devices, Inc. in the high-speed A/D converter group in Greensboro, N.C. He has published numerous papers on converter interfaces, converter testing and analog signal chain design. Formerly, Rob was an analog design engineer for the Multi-Chip Products group designing analog signal chain modules for space, military and high reliability applications. Rob received his MSEE and BSEE from Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, Ill., in 1998 and 1996 respectively.
Lauro Rizzatti
General Manager of EVE-USA. Dr. Lauro Rizzatti has more than 30 years of experience in the EDA and ATE industries, where he held responsibilities in management, product marketing, technical marketing, and engineering. Prior to joining EVE he held various positions in companies such as Get2Chip, Synopsys, Mentor Graphics, Teradyne, Alcatel, and Italtel. Lauro holds a doctorate in Electronic Engineering from the Universita` degli Studi di Trieste, Italy.
Dafydd Roche
Dafydd Roche is an audio converter systems engineer at Texas Instruments. A graduate of the University of York (U.K.), he pours his passion and knowledge of audio and music into his work, enabling audio design engineers to make products customers can’t wait to use. Aside from his engineering duties, Dafydd is also a musician who makes and records music with fellow musicians in the Dallas area.
Ross Sabolcik
Director of wireless products at Silicon Labs. He holds a master’s degree in computer and systems engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and a BSEE from Penn State University.
Paul Schimel
Paul Schimel is a Senior Field Applications Engineer at International Rectifier. A veteran of the power electronics industry, Paul has more than 15 years experience in power electronics design, emc and transformer design including offline AC-DC converters for medium and high power levels, motor drives and DC-DC converters. He is a hands-on engineer and innovator, endlessly building power electronics circuitry, welding, and machining for audio, HVAC, and propulsion applications. He is a licensed Professional Engineer and holds two patents.
Frank Schirrmeister
Frank Schirrmeister is the director of product management at Synopsys Inc. He is responsible for the System-Level Solutions products Innovator, DesignWare System-Level Library and System Studio with a focus on virtual platforms for early software development. Prior to joining Synopsys, he held senior management positions at Imperas, ChipVision, Cadence, AXYS Design Automation, and SICAN Microelectronics. He also writes about system-level issues in his blog, "A View From the Top."
Tamara Schmit
Senior principal applications engineer at Intersil Corp., earned a BS, MS, and PhD in electrical engineering from Stanford University. She also has taught analog circuits and test development engineering as an assistant professor at San Jose State University.
Robin Tichy
Dr. Robin Tichy is the Technical Marketing Manager at Micro Power Electronics. She has done extensive research in battery cathode chemistry in her doctoral work at the University of Texas, Austin. She also has experience in the semiconductor industry working at the research consortium, International SEMATECH. At Hewlett Packard she focused on display and printer technology. She received her Ph.D from The University of Texas at Austin in 2001.
Dave Van Ess
Dave Van Ess is an application engineer, MTS, with Cypress Semiconductor and has nearly 30 years of design experience. Dave also holds a BSEE from the University of Calif., Berkeley.
Al Wegener
Al Wegener is the CTO and founder of Samplify Systems, a fabless semiconductor startup in Santa Clara, Calif. He holds 17 patents and is named on additional Samplify patent applications. He earned a BSEE from Bucknell University and an MSCS from Stanford University.
Michael White
Michael White is the senior product marketing manager for Mentor Graphics’ Calibre Physical Verification products. Before joining Mentor Graphics, he held various product marketing, strategic marketing and program management roles for Applied Materials, Etec Systems and the Lockheed Skunk Works. Michael received a BS in System Engineering from Harvey Mudd College. He also holds a MBA/BS in engineering management from the University of Southern California.
Bob Zollo
Bob Zollo is product planner in the System Products Division of Agilent Technologies’ Electronic Measurement Group. Bob has been with Agilent since 1984 and is responsible for Agilent’s power products roadmap. He holds a degree in electrical engineering from Stevens Institute of Technology, Hoboken, NJ.
