Intelligent Sensor Design Using the Microchip dsPIC
Although Huddleston specifically covers the dsPIC in this book, it is general enough to be used as an introduction on digital sensors for any DSP or DSC platform.
Single-Chip Receiver Brings Analog And Digital TV To Cell Phones
Do people really want TV on their cell phones? The demand might not be there yet, but manufacturers and carriers are working hard on delivering TV to handsets despite the small screen. Telegent Systems' TLG1100 and TLG1130 single-chip TV receivers should make that happen a lot faster. There are two methods for bringing TV to cell phones. The first uses the existing cell-phone network to deliver Internet Protocol TV (IPTV). Available now from carriers like Verizon, it consists...

NASA Blames Software Glitch For Mars Global Surveyor Failure
After nine years and 52 days, the Mars Global Surveyor orbiter broadcast its last communication with Earth on Nov. 2, 2006. Eleven hours later, depleted batteries left the spacecraft unable to control its orientation. Now, an internal NASA review of the mission has determined why those batteries failed.
ESC San Jose: Day 2
Al Gore was a big hit as the keynote speaker today at the Embedded Systems Conference. I took six pages of notes, but I doubt I will be able to present it as eloquently or humorously as the former Vice President and “recovering politician” did. Hopefully CMP will post the presentation online. Photos and recording devices were not permitted.
Multithreading: It’s Not New!
The widespread introduction of multi-core architectures, most notably the Core 2 Duo from Intel, means that to take advantage of modern processors we must write multi-threaded applications that can do more than one thing at a time, and hence take advantage of the increase in processing power.
Mixed-Signal MCUs Feature 100-MHz CPU In Tiny Package
The C8051F Small-Form-Factor MCUs from Silicon Laboratories are well-suited for applications that require precision motion control and signal processing.
