Ready for automotive designs, the MAX9937 high-side current-sense amplifier employs external resistors to set the voltage gain and protects against accidental application of reverse battery voltage and inductive kickback transients and spikes, a.k.a., load dumps, from -20V to +40V. Input common-mode range is 4V to 28V and is independent of the Vcc supply voltage, which can operate at 2.7V to 5.5V. When Vcc is 5V, the supply current is 20 µA and when Vcc is 0V the input bias current at the sense resistor is 1 ?A. Additionally, maximum input offset voltage is ±1.2 mV. Available in a five-pin, 3 mm x 3 mm SC70 package, prices start at $0.58 each/1,000. MAXIM INTEGRATED PRODUCTS, Sunnyvale, CA. (800) 998-8800.
