Low-Power ADC Samples Six Inputs At Once

Linear Technology’s newest low-power (600 ksamples/s) analog-to-digital converter (ADC) simultaneously samples six differential inputs.

The LTC1408 three-wire serial ADC operates from a single 3-V supply, and it has an average power dissipation of 15 mW. Power dissipation in nap and sleep mode is reduced to 3.3 W and 6 µW, respectively, with the internal 2.5-V reference remaining active in nap mode and internal circuitry powered down in sleep mode. The internal reference also can be overdriven with an external reference, up to the analog supply voltage.

The ADC uses three input-select lines to configure the number of differential outputs, with one differential input running at 600 ksamples/s and up to six differential inputs running at 100 ksamples/s.

The six conversion results are delivered sequentially to a high-speed DSP serial port via a three-wire interface. The LTC1408 also features a separate digital output power-supply pin and a bipolar/unipolar pin to select ±1.25-V bipolar or 0- to 2.5-V unipolar input ranges.

The LTC1408 is available in a 32-pin (5 by 5 mm) quad flat no-lead (QFN) package. It also is available in the commercial and industrial temperature ranges. Pricing begins at $8.95 in 1000-piece quantities.
