Sampling eight 14-bit channels simultaneously at 2 Msamples/s (263 ksamples/s per channel), Maxim's MAX1316, MAX1320, and MAX1324 squeeze twice as many channels as competing devices into half the package footprint (49 mm2 versus 100 mm2). The MAX1316 has a 0- to 5-V input with ±16.5-V overvoltage protection, while the 1320 features a ±5-V input with ±6-V overvoltage protection. The 1324 offers a ±10-V input with ±6-V overvoltage protection.

Also integrated on the converters are a 2.5-V internal reference and a 6.6-MHz, 14-bit, bidirectional, parallel interface. A FIFO allows conversion results to be read at the end of the conversion sequence or between conversions.

The analog-to-digital converters (ADCs), which operate from a 4.75- to 5.25-V analog supply and a separate 2.7- to 5.25-V digital supply, consume less than 50 mA. Also, dc performance comes in at ±2-LSB integral nonlinearity and ±1-LSB differential nonlinearity, and ac performance is 76-dB signal-to-noise-and-distortion and 93-dBc spurious-free dynamic range. The devices operate from 40°C to 85°C.

Prices start at $10.75 in lots of 1000 and up.
