To both increase the volume of energy-efficient chips and create new jobs, Texas Instruments unveils its analog manufacturing facility in Richardson, Texas. The company expects to begin moving equipment into the location in October. Known as RFAB, it will reportedly be the world’s only production facility to use 300-millimeter (12-inch) silicon wafers to manufacture analog chips. This will allow thousands of analog chips to be etched onto each wafer, more than double the number commonly found on smaller 200-millimeter wafers. The facility is set to produce analog integrated circuits based on the company’s proprietary process that will find employment in electronics ranging from smart phones and netbooks to telecom and computing systems.
