Intellectual property (IP) developer inSilicon Corp. has inked a distribution deal with worldwide semiconductor distributor Insight Electronics. This deal lets Insight add inSilicon's
communication IPs
onto Xilinx's FPGAs for system-on-a-chip (SoC) solutions. InSilicon has licensed its communication IPs and test environment to Insight.
Cielo Communications has joined an existent multisource agreement (MSA) with Infineon Technologies, JDS Uni-phase, Nortel Networks, and LightLogic Inc. to develop
a small-footprint OC-192 optical transponder.
The agreement specifies a full drop-in, 10-Gbit/s solution. The MSA provides significant space and cost savings for high-speed optical links requiring a reach of 0.6 to 12 km.
Interlink Electronics Inc., a developer of intuitive interface solutions, is partnering with Cardiff Software Inc., a provider of e-business automation solutions to make Interlink's ePad handwritten
electronic signatures
compatible with Cardiff's LiquidForms XML-based eForm Management System. The LiquidForms management system publishes automated electronics forms online, where they may be accessed via popular Web browsers. Once the work is completed, users will be able to legally sign LiquidForm documents using Interlink's ePad e-signature solution.
iQuest Consultants Inc. is launching a networking business unit to offer corporate clients a variety of data networking solutions. The unit will be centered around the iQ Rack System, an
automated network error-detection system
comprising components from Cisco, AT&T, and other third-party manufacturers.
FRx Software Corp., a developer of financial reporting software and financial analytics, plans to acquire ebudgets.com, a developer of budgeting, planning, and collaboration applications. The acquisition will be in the form of a stock-for-stock exchange using Great Plains Software Inc. common stock. FRx Software plans to enhance its
financial analytics applications
by adding components that can be deployed via the Internet or in a client/server environment.
Internet access provider EarthLink Inc. and 2Wire Inc., a broadband and home-networking company, have joined forces to launch the nationwide EarthLink Home Networking service. This service will enable families to
access the Web through multiple devices with one connection.
The initial version will let families link computers onto a single network so they can share printers and files.
Compaq Computer Corp. has announced a hardware deal with Allscripts Healthcare Solutions of Chicago. More than 15,000 physicians in Allscripts'
paperless prescription service
will be able to use Compaq iPAQ handheld devices to write prescriptions, reference clinical material, and record dictated notes. This three-year agreement is valued at more than $100 million.
Microsoft Corp. has formed an alliance with Internet services company NTT Communications Corp. NTT will provide
net access for the new Xbox game console.
Microsoft will be able to offer services using NTT Communications' asymmetric dedicated subscriber line (ADSL) net access service. Trials of online gaming services are set to begin this year. Other online services are set to be launched in 2002.
Microsoft Corp. has completed its acquisition of Great Plains Software Corp. This company will now be an operating division of Microsoft, known as Microsoft Great Plains. It will continue to develop and support the Dynamics, eEnterprise, and Solomon business applications. It also is expected to provide new capabilities for Microsoft's bCentral small-business service and
develop new solutions on the Microsoft .Net platform.
