Sioux Center, IA—February 13, 2006—Groschopp, Inc., has announced manufacturing compliance with the European Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) directive. The directive requires that all electrical and electronic products registered with the European Union be free of restricted toxins as of July 2006. Groschopp has taken a proactive approach ahead of the worldwide schedule by producing fractional HP motors that use lead-free solder as of December 2005. The company will replace its Sn50 Pb50 solder for Sn96.4Ag3.0Cu0.5 lead-free solder. Solder processes including the flux and cleaner used will remain the same.
“In support of important environmental legislations, we will continue to produce quality equipment in compliance with the RoHS directive,” said Jared Birk, Sr. Electrical Engineer for Groschopp. “In running tests, the lead-free solder was determined to be superior with its higher melting point than standard solder.”
RoHS lists the restricted chemicals as lead, mercury, cadmium, hexavalent chromium, PBB and PDBE. In order to comply with the directive, toxins must be removed or must be reduced to within maximum allowances.
