Bittware Blends AMC, TigerSHARCs and Serial RapidIO

Serial RapidIO (SRIO) is hot when it comes to communication and platforms like VSX, VPX and AdvancedTCA and MicroTCA. The last two utilize AMC (Advanced Mezzanine Card) modules. Many DSPs from Texas Instruments and Freescale sport built-in SRIO interfaces, but many, like Analog Devices' ADSP-TS201S TigerSHARC, do not. For Bittware and its customers, that is not a problem.

Bittware's B2AM (see the Figure) houses four ADSP-TS201S DSPs capable of churning 14.4 GFLOPS and 57.5 GOPS of 16-bit fixed point processing. It also has a Stratix II FPGA. The latter sits between the DSPs and switch fabrics on the backplane like SRIO. In theory, other interfaces could be programmed in the FPGA, but for now, the 3.125-GHz SRIO is what developers are interested in. The board has 3 Mbytes of RAM for each TigerSHARC. The DSPs and FPGA utilize TigerSHARC's native high speed 4-Gbit/s links. For more information, check out Bittware.
