Semiconductor company Broadcom and software powerhouse Electronics Arts Inc. (EA) have agreed to work together to bring EA Mobile games to handsets. Broadcom will utilize its VideoCore III mobile multimedia processor technology found in Broadcom’s BCM 2727 chip, enabling EA to roll out its games with higher resolution than current cell phone games provide.

According to Broadcom, The BCM 2727 processor is the industry's first low power multimedia processor that enables high definition video camcorder and playback in cell phones and portable media players, supports up to 12 megapixel digital camera, and delivers high performance yet ultra-low power 3D graphics for a world-class gaming experience.

VideoCore III features 2D and 3D graphics accelerators on-chip, and can render 3D games with a performance of up to 32 million triangles per second. With HDMI output, games downloaded on a handset can be played with HD resolution on a television screen.

“The new Broadcom VideoCore III processor delivers the unique combination of cutting-edge 3D graphics performance, at low power, for extended gaming on a mobile phone," said Travis Boatman, Vice President of Worldwide Studios for EA Mobile.  "We are excited for EA Mobile titles to be among the first games to deliver this type of quality visual experience to the mobile handset."
