Using the Intel Core 2 Duo processor, the PP 412/03x CompactPCI single-board computer (SBC) from Concurrent Technologies delivers an improved performance/watt compared to its predecessor PP 410/03x. The upgraded SBC supports the 2.16-GHz Core Duo T7400 (in a socket) with 4 Mbytes L2 cache (shared between the cores). By using appropriate operating systems and applications software, a computing increase of up to twice an Intel Pentium M processor is achievable, even though the thermal design power for the dual-core processor is 34 W, versus 27 W for the single-core Pentium M 760 (with 2 Mbytes L2 cache).

The PP 412/03x can access up to 4 Mbytes of DDR2-400 ECC SDRAM at up to 6.4 Gbytes/s. It offers a wide range of I/O capability (see the Figure). There are two high-performance PMC sites supporting both front and rear I/O, three Gigabit Ethernet interfaces, PICMG 2.16 (Ethernet fabric), PICMG 2.9 (IPMI), and PICMG 2.1 (hot swap). Each PMC site is controlled via its own PCI bus. The SBC can operate as a system controller board, a peripheral board, or as a satellite board (blade). For ease of integration, the PP 412/03x family of boards support many operating systems, including Linux, Windows Server 2003, Windows 2000, Windows XP Embedded, Windows XP, VxWorks, and QNX. List prices for the 2.16-GHz Intel Core 2 Duo T7400 version start at $3380. For more information, go to www.gocct.com//sheets/pp41203x.htm.
