Stream Processors Inc. has licensed the MIPS32 4KEc processor core for use in the Stream Processor Architecture. The MIPS processor manages select system-on-a-chip (SoC) and system level functions that support SPI’s high-performance DSP co-processor. SPI’s platform provides price-performance advantages while simplifying parallel processing, according to the fabless semiconductor company. The platform targets a range of demanding digital signal processing applications, such as video and image processing. The synthesizable 4KEc core, from MIPS Technologies Inc., offers SoC designers the flexibility to optimize applications for performance, size, or power consumption, with a corresponding reduction in system costs. The 4KEc family delivers 1.5 DMIPS/MHz performance in an area as small as 1.0 mm⊃2. It’s fabricated on a 0.13-micron process.
