The new dual-core Snapdragon from Qualcomm is a single-chip processor that targets more advanced mobile computing devices. The QSD8672 chip, announced at CES 2009, features two computing cores capable of up to 1.5-GHz operation, optimized battery life, and a full range of 3G mobile broadband and peripheral connectivity capabilities. Two processing cores can deliver an extremely fast response and a greater ability to run multiple applications concurrently.

The QSD8672 will provide mobile devices with 3G wireless broadband through the Qualcomm’s integrated multi-mode modems, including HSPA+ for up to 28 Mbytes/s on the downlink and up to 11 Mbytes/s on the uplink. The chip integrates GPS, Bluetooth, and 1080p high-definition video recording and playback, and also supports Wi-Fi and mobile TV technologies such as MediaFLO, DVB-H, and ISDB-T. Its 2D and 3D graphics engines generate display resolutions up to WSXGA (1440 x 900).

Sampling is scheduled for the second half of 2009. For more information on Snapdragon, visit www.qctconnect.com/products/snapdragon
