The MAX3678, a low-jitter frequency synthesizer with nine LVPECL clock outputs and intelligent dynamic switching, generates a clock output up to 333 MHz from a 66.6-MHz reference input. It exploits a low-noise VCO and PLL architecture to ensure a jitter figure of 0.3 ps-rms from 12 kHz to 20 MHz with a -60-dBc power-supply noise rejection. Configurable via its pins or I2C interface, the device generates two different frequencies to provide both a memory-module reference clock and a CPU clock. This feature eliminates the need for a high-frequency oscillator as well as a fan-out buffer. Available in a lead-free, 56-pin TQFN package, prices start at $16 each/1,000 and an evaluation kit is available. MAXIM INTEGRATED PRODUCTS, Sunnyvale, CA. (800) 998-8800.
