PicoGuard XS, described as an innovative ESD-protection architecture taking position in the XtremeESD family, promises to provide both reliable signal integrity and robust ESD protection for high-speed differential signals such as DisplayPort and HDMI. Integrating inductors with the ESD protection diodes, the architecture eliminates the need for external compensation to match line impedance, reducing design complexity and cost. The first PicoGuard XS device, the CM1233-08DE, offers eight channels of ESD protection. It handles four pairs of differential channels, offering ESD protection to IEC61000-4-2 Level 4 + -8 kV contact discharge. Compared to best-in-class ESD diode arrays, the device forecasts a 40% reduction in peak clamping voltage, 15% to 40% reduction in peak residual current, 100-Ohm differential impedance matching with no external compensation, straight-through routing for better layouts, and a compact, 16-pin TDFN package. Price for the CM1233-08DE is $0.57 each/1,000. CALIFORNIA MICRO DEVICES CORP., Milpitas, CA. (800) 325-4966.
