For high-volume automotive, industrial, and consumer applications, the MLX75305 light-to-voltage sensor specifies a lifespan of 15 years. The component integrates a photodiode, transimpedance amplifier, and linear voltage output stage, an approach that reportedly guarantees stable light responsivity over time and temperature, significantly improves noise behavior, and simplifies designs. Features include a highly linear voltage output, responsivity relatively independent of temperature, an open-cavity DFN package measuring 3 mm x 3 mm x 0.65 mm (also available in an SO8 package), a pin-to-photodiode accuracy better than ±85 µm, and an operating temperature range from -40°C to +125°C that meets AEC-Q100. Price for the MLX75305 SensorEyeC is about $0.30 each for medium volume quantities. For more details, contact Sue Brocius at MELEXIS USA, Concord, NH. (603) 223-2362.
