Motorola Inc. cut the red ribbon in Wangjing, Beijing today, commencing research and development from its new facilities in China.

Construction of the 92,000 square-meter compound began in 2005. It’s comprised of three low-rise R&D buildings, a 16-floor office tower, and a lab for Motorola employees and R&D engineers. Its inauguration marks the 20th anniversary of Motorola’s tenure in China. This new complex will join the ranks of Motorola’s facilities in Tianjin, Shanghai, Nanjing, Chengdu and Hangzhou—a combined effort of $800 million in R&D in China.

Some Motorola tributaries moving into the new facility include Motorola’s Mobile Device China Design Center, Home and Networks Mobility, and the China division of Motorola’s Global Software Group. Other groups heading for Wangjing include test and compliance groups, Global Telecom Solutions Sector, Motorola Engineering Institues, Antenna and EMI labs, and a Customer Network Resolution Center.
