Analog Devices new ADSP-2147x and ADSP-2148x 32-bit DSPs target a range of application areas such as consumer audio, medical and industrial automation. The 266 MHz parts have a typical power usage of only 363 mW making them suitable for mobile battery-powered application. The ADSP-2148x top speeds are 300 MHz, 350 MHz and 400 MHz. This family can deliver 2 GFLOPS of performance. Hardware acceleration for FIR, IIR and FFTs is included as well. These can help with audio processing as well as advanced motor control algorithms.

They also have a large amount of on-chip RAM (3 Mbits or 5 Mbits) for heavy duty data processing chores. Versions are available with a 4 Mbit ROM that can include audio codec support. Analog Devices' Variable Instruction Set Architecture (VISA) can free up as much as 30% of memory space for application code through reductions in instruction opcode sizing for memory operations.

The chips have an integrated, 16-bit wide memory controller that connects directly to SDRAM, flash, and SRAMs. The digital peripheral interfaces (DPI) inlude 8 serial ports that support multichannel TDM and I2S, SPI ports, and I2C ports. The digital audio interfaces (DAI) include S/PDIF support as well as Parallel Data Acquisition Port (PDAP), and a 24-bit precision clock generator (PCG). The asynchronous sample rate converter (ASRC) is designed to handle asynchronous or synchronous sample rate conversions across independent stereo channels without using processor resources. There are 4 timers, 4 PWM channels and a watchdog timer. The PWM channels can be generate center or edge aligned signals. The ADSP-2147x adds a real time clock to the mix.

A thermal diode provides ambient temperature measurements and is available in the 100-lead LQFP packages. The chips are also avaialbe in 196 ball CSPBGA packages. Pricing starts at $8.20. EZ-Kitevaluation boards are available.
