Intersil Corp. introduced the D2-41X58-LR family of digital audio chips employ D2Audio’s fourth generation Digital Audio Engine (DAE-4) at CES 2009 in Las Vegas, Nevada. These chips, according to the company, exceed previous superior sound quality standards at a low cost. The D2Audio devices feature a signal-to-noise (SNR) greater than 105 dB and a THD + N performance of less than 0.1%.

The five-channel DAE-4 also features advanced audio processing support and D2Audio SoundSuite Enhancements. Other features include I2S and S/PDIF inputs, plus a high-performance Class-D amplifier and digital-to-analog (DAC) outputs. The DAE-4 supports multiple amplifier output configurations, including stereo, 2.1-channel, bi-amp, four-channel, and amplifier/DAC combinations. Projected price upon release is $1.75 each/10,000.
