Hall-Effect Sensor Interface Takes Two-Wire Route

By Staff

October 08, 2008

The MAX9921 dual, two-wire Hall-effect sensor interface supplies and monitors the current drawn by two Hall-effect sensors, filters the sensed current level, and outputs the corresponding logic level. The Chip reduces interconnect costs by allowing the sensors to be grounded locally, eliminating the need for an additional wire. Also, it replaces multiple discrete components and includes input diagnostics and fault protection. Groomed for harsh operating conditions, the sensor interface is capable of enduring substantial ground shift and withstands reverse voltages up to 28V when the supply is within range or at ground. Available in a 10-pin microMAX package, price starts at $1.49 each/1,000. MAXIM INTEGRATED PRODUCTS, Sunnyvale, CA. (800) 998-8800.
