Trumpeted as the first device on the market to combine support for HDTV, up to 120-Mb/s broadband connectivity, and DVR functions in a single chip, the STi7141 cable set-top box IC promises lower deployment costs while also driving subscriber take-up of unique services such as next-gen interactivity. Built on 55-nm process technology, the device supports current HD standards with three cable receivers and multi-standard MPEG4/H.264/VC1 decoding. It also integrates a cable modem meeting DOCSIS and EuroDOCSIS 2.0 standards, enabling an always-on Internet connection. The IC also supports IP-based interactive TV and VoIP plus DOCSIS 3.0 downstream channel bonding, which supports download speeds up to 120 Mb/s. Available in a 35 mm x 35 mm PBGA, the STi7141 is sampling now with pricing available on application. STMICROELECTRONICS, Lexington, MA. (888) 787-3550.
