Groomed for capacitive-touch applications in mobile phones, the LDS6040 is one of the first capacitive touch controllers with an integrated haptics driver for use with input controls including sliders, scroll wheels, and buttons. The device carries the VibeTonz-Ready designation, certifying compatibility with Immersion’s VibeTonz advanced haptic platform for mobile phones. Via 15 sensor inputs, the device delivers update rates of 2 ms per sensor input with automatic calibration logic continuously monitoring the environment to adjust ambient baseline levels. Eight sensor inputs are configurable as LED drivers capable of driving up to 8 mA of current with 16mA available for a single LED by connecting to two LED drivers simultaneously. Dimming is configurable over various transition times with 32 dimming steps available at maximum current drive. The device operates with a 1.8V touch supply voltage and LED and haptics supply voltage ranges from 3V to 5V and consumes less than 200 mW in full power mode. Additionally, the LDS6040 comes in a 40-lead, 5 mm x 5 mm TQFN package with a maximum thickness of 0.8 mm. LEADIS TECHNOLOGY INC., Sunnyvale, CA. (408) 331-8600.
