USB 2.0 Chips Make Serial/Parallel Interfacing A Snap

The company’s fifth generation USB-to-UART/FIFO ICs support the 480 Mb/s USB 2.0 Hi-Speed specification and are configurable in a variety of industry-standard serial or parallel interfaces such as UART or FIFO. The FT4232H offers four configurable interfaces and the FT2232H provides two configurable interfaces. Two of the FT4232H’s interfaces and both of the FT2232H’s interfaces are configurable as UART, JTAG, SPI, I2C, or bit-bang mode serial interfaces with independent baud rate generators. The additional two interfaces of the FT4232H offer UART or bit-bang options. Additionally, the FT2232H is configurable as a dual FT245 FIFO, host bus emulation mode, CPU interface FIFO mode, or an opto-isolated serial interface mode. Both devices support data-transfer rates up to 12 Mb/s when configured as an RS-232/-422/-485 UART interface and over 25 MB/s over a parallel FIFO interface (FT2232H only).
