Software radio is a hot topic, and Pentek is targeting this arena with its Model 7141-703 conduction-cooled PMC/XMC Transceiver Module (see the Figure). Designed for harsh environments, the module complies With ANSI/VITA 20 Conduction-Cooled PMC specification. The module has an extended operating temperature range of -40°C to +70°C.

The board features a Xilinx Virtex-II Pro FPGA with 512 Mbytes of DDR SDRAM, a pair of low-power 14-bit ADCs with sampling rates up to 125 MHz, and a pair of 500-MHz 16-bit DACs. Two full-scale, +10-dBm, analog HF or IF inputs are available on the front-panel SSMCX connectors. The FPGA has access to the XMC interface's two 4-lane connections allowing it to support a number of different high-speed serial interfaces like PCI Express and Serial RapidIO. Built-in Sync Bus support allows synchronization of up to 80 boards. Pentek's GateFlow IP Cores software is supported, including wideband and multi-channel digital receivers as well as Fourier Transform (FFT) and pulse-compression algorithms.
