Express Logic has been busy lately with a new trace tool and support for Microchip’s new 32-bit PIC32 microcontroller based on the MIPS Technologies’ MIPS32 M4K core. The TraceX ThreadX System Event Analysis program is a host-based embedded development tool. It is designed to work with Express Logic's ThreadX RTOS. It adds a nice summary bar above the trace display. Event logging can be stopped and restarted dynamically by the tool or application. Trace information is stored in a circular buffer on the target system. Uploads can occur when encountering a breakpoint. The tool incorporates a "software logic analyzer" with color-coded event icons. Selecting an event icon with the mouse displays corresponding information for the event as well as information for the two previous and two subsequent events. A collapsed "overview mode" display shows all system events on a single line. TraceX is priced at $1,000. TraceX and ThreadX support the new Microchip PIC32. They work with Microchip’s MPLAB IDE. A free demo version is available as a download from Express Logic’s site. A ThreadX royalty-free licenses for Microchip’s PIC32 starts at $12,500. This includes full source-code.
