Cellular phones that have two separate keypads can now be driven independently with one IC. The HV862 from Supertex Inc. is a dimmable, low-noise, dual electroluminescent lamp driver designed to backlight keypads in cellular phones, portable instrumentation, and other handheld devices. The device features independent input controls for lamp selection, a 180-V pk-pk output voltage for high brightness, and adjustable output-voltage regulation for dimming capability. It requires a single inductor and a minimum number of passive components.

The HV862 comes in a 3- by 3-mm QFN-16 package (HV862K7-G), which is RoHS-compliant. Samples are available from stock. Lead time for production quantities is four to six weeks. The HV862K7-G costs $1.25 each in quantities of 1000. To learn more, checkout www.supertex.com.
