Underwriters Laboratories (UL) has cut the ribbon on a facility in Novi, Mich., dedicated to electromagnetic-compliance (EMC) testing for the automotive industry. Featuring a staff of more than 15 NARTE-certified (National Association of Radio and Telecommunications Engineers) and EMC engineers, the Novi facility will offer test services to a variety of customers. However, it includes specialized test chambers for Ford, DaimlerChrysler, and General Motors. The lab is equipped with a CISPR 25 radiated emissions chamber, a humidity- and temperature-controlled electrostatic discharge room, and RF anechoic chambers. These setups will let UL engineers test a range of products, from components to entire cars. For details, contact Kimball Williams, senior staff engineer, at (248) 427-5325 or k.williams@ieee.org, or go to www.ul.com/emcautomotive.
