Motorola and Phiar Corporation have begun a joint venture project to create next-generation electronic circuits that can be incorporated with tiny antennas to deliver high-speed millimeter-wave receive arrays able to operate in the terahertz range in automotive radar, among other applications. The joint development effort will combine Phiar's metal-insulator technology with Motorola's millimeter-wave circuits and systems technology, as well as its modeling and simulation, device and circuit characterization, and advanced prototyping capabilities.
