Toshiba adds brighter white LEDs

Sept. 26, 2007
Toshiba America Electronic Components (www.toshiba.com/taec) has introduced compact, high-efficiency white light emitting diodes (LEDs) that provide twice the brightness of the firm’s previous generation white LEDs.

Toshiba America Electronic Components has introduced compact, high-efficiency white light-emitting diodes (LEDs) that provide twice the brightness of the firm’s previous generation white LEDs. The TLWK1100B LED delivers luminous intensity levels of 1500 millicandelas (mcd) from a drive current of only 20 mA (typical value). The LEDs are suitable for automotive lighting applications.

The TLWK1100B is available in a standard PLCC2 surface-mount package that measures 3.2 mm x 2.9 mm x 1.9 mm. The LED's high brightness white light output is a result of a combination of a blue InGaN (indium gallium nitride) LED and yellow-emitting phosphor. The device offers efficient operation with maximum power dissipation of 114 mW and typical forward voltage (VF) of 3.2 V. Operating temperature ranges from -40 °C to 100 °C.
