Mechanical Clips Attach Heat Sinks To Board

Two mechanical attachment clips for UltraCool III U heat sinks have been developed to meet the requirements of high reliability applications. They are designed for various footprints and are suitable for any package type, including the increasingly popular flip chip package. The surface mount clip is screwed on to two standoffs that are soldered to the top layer of the PCB. The slightly curved flat leaf-spring clip is made of 0.02( thick hard conditioned stainless steel. The through-hole clip is snapped into two obroud slots in the PCB. The slightly curved flat leaf-spring clip is made of 0.02( thick hard conditioned beryllium copper.
