SAS HBA Supports 12 Gbit/s Drives

Aug. 29, 2013
LSI is leading the introduction of 12 Gbit/s SAS drives with its new LSI SAS 9300 HBA host bus adapters.

LSI's SAS 9300 HBA family includes four models from the 4 port, SAS9300-4i to the 8 port, SAS 9300-8e and they support the upcoming 12 Gbit/s SAS drives. The support the latest x8 PCI Express 3.0 specification delivering over 1 million IOPs and 6 Gbytes/s of throughput. This is a 50% improvement over the previous generation. SAS bandwidth is 4800 Mbytes/s. The HBAs are based on the LSIAS3008 Fusion MPT 2.5 I/O controller.

The SAS9300-4i has four internal ports while the SAS9300-4i4e adds four external ports. The SAS9300-8i (see figure) and SAS9300-8e have eight internal or external ports respectively. All use Mini SAS HD SFF8644 connectors. The low profile boars are ideal for 1U server applications.

Pricing for the base, 4 port, SAS9300-4i starts at $245. The adapters do not have hardware RAID support. The controllers support SAS and SATA SSDs, HDDs and tape drives.
