Single-chip engine leads to mini VoIP adapters

Munich, Germany:
It's the first single-chip VoIP (Voice-over-IP) engine with integrated codec and analog telephony interface, or so claims chipmaker Infineon about its Vinetic-Plus. The chip paves the way for creation of compact and portable VoIP-telephony adapters, allowing any analog phone to establish VoIP calls from any broadband Internet connection, according to the company.

Compared to existing solutions, the Vinetic-Plus reduces pc-board area required for an adapter by at least 30%.
