The call for a cost-effective 10-Gbit/s internetworking system in data-center server/switch and stackable gigabit switch applications may be answered with the MY3124. This XAUI-to-XAUI retiming transceiver implements 10-Gbit/s Ethernet communications over copper connections. It contains dual 10-Gbit/s serial interfaces with programmable data rates from 1 to 3.1675 Gbits/s. The MY3124 offers eight serial channels that can be configured for 1G, 2G, and 10G Fibre Channel, InfiniBand, or Gigabit Ethernet applications. It contains forward error correction (FEC) on each channel, which reduces bit error rate (BER) to less than 10-17 and extends the transmission distance by more than 40%. Available now, the transceiver goes for $50 in large quantities.
