Mini Modules Open Up New Paths To ZigBee Network Control

Feb. 28, 2014
MeshConnect EM358x Mini Modules from California Eastern Laboratories (CEL) capitalize on the latest enhancements in Silicon Labs’ EM3588 system-on-a-chip (SoC) to facilitate new ways to link into and control ZigBee network environments within Connected Home, Building Automation, and other machine-to-machine (M2M) applications.

The modules 2.7 times more flash memory and five times more RAM than its EM357-based predecessors. The added flash boosts application storage and over-the-air programming capability, while the added RAM enables support for ZigBee IPv6-based networks (e.g., the ZigBee Smart Energy 2.0 standard). The RAM enhancement also opens the door to tasks requiring real-time operating system (RTOS) execution times, and supports larger mesh networks. A built-in USB controller facilitates integration of ZigBee into existing devices with USB connectivity. All modules, which are FCC-, IC-, CE-, and iControl-certified, employ the Silicon Labs’ ZigBee PRO Stack (EmberZNet PRO). Standard (+8 dBm) and long-range (+20 dBm) options are available.
