Phase-locked-loop (PLL) frequency synthesizers lie at the heart of all digital radio transceivers. A new family of PLL synthesizers offers outputs up to 8 GHz for use as local oscillators in up/down conversion applications. The LT series devices are available in fixed-frequency or serially programmable models to cover the 200-Hz to 8-GHz range in step sizes from 10 kHz to 1 MHz. The output is +7 dBm with harmonics and spurious outputs down −20 dBc and −65 dBc, respectively. The HFS series synthesizers operate over the 500-MHz to 5-GHz range with up to 35% bandwidths. The output is +15 dBm. The HLX series synthesizers are designed for military and high-reliability ground, airborne, and missile applications. Frequency ranges from 50 MHz to 3.6 GHz. Output power is +7 dBm. The HLX units are hermetically sealed and available in a surface-mount package. All of these models have exceptional low phase-noise characteristics and include internal regulators and buffer amplifiers.
