Costing half as much as previously available SMA blindmate connectors, Quality Blind Connectors (QBCs) are for applications from 1 to 18 GHz. The proprietary connectors offer low insertion loss and low VSWR. One side of the QBC interface is a standard, low-cost SMA connector. The other side is essentially a standard SMA interface in which the coupling nut is replaced by a coupling collar that's supported by a housing and spring-biased washer arrangement that allows free radial displacement. The coupling collar accomplishes initial alignment during which it is truly free-floating. In the engaging process, the two shells mate, and continued motion results in preload at the shell interfaces. Connectors are useful in final test stations, chassis and rack installations, and remote field applications.
