The G8921-01 gallium-arsenide (GaAs) photodiode array provides high-speed response at low bias voltage, low dark current, and low capacitance. With a four-element array design, it functions for high-speed optical data links and other optical communications applications. A response rate of 2.5 Gbits/s per channel yields a total response rate of 10 Gbits/s at a low bias voltage of only 2 V. Dark current is typically 2 pA, and terminal capacitance is typically 0.35 pF. The part has a spectral range of 470 to 870 nm. It achieves peak sensitivity of 0.5 A/W at 850 nm. The G8921-01 has a small active area of φ0.06 mm per channel with an element pitch of 250 mm. In addition to the standard four-element array, the G8921-01 can be manufactured with as many as 16 elements to suit customer requirements. The device is surface-mountable and measures 6.4 by 2.3 by 1.0 mm. In large quantities, pricing starts at $38.10.
