Incorporating a two-cavity structure, the K50H series, surface-mount (SMT) 100-MHz clock oscillators measure 7 mm x 5 mm x 1.6 mm and are available for communications protocols that include Fibre Channel, Gigabit Ethernet, ATM, and10-Gb Ethernet. The two-cavity structure provides one cavity for the crystal on top of the ceramic package with a second cavity on the bottom that houses an IC. The separate cavity approach protects the crystal from contamination due to outgassing from the IC die bonding paste. Available in frequencies from 50 MHz to 156.52 MHz, the components have a frequency stability to ±25 ppm. The ceramic package provides space for grounding and space for a bypass capacitor. Price is less than $8 each/5,000. AVX CORP., Myrtle Beach, SC. (843) 448-9411.
