The VLP270 PolySwitch polymeric positive temperature coefficient (PPTC) resettable strap device offers approximately 37% lower resistance than a comparably sized PolySwitch VTP device. Typical resistance is 15 mΩ at 25°C. The VLP270 features hold-current ratings of 2.7 A at 25°C and 1.4 A at 60°C. The maximum time-to-trip is 5 s at 13.5 A, and voltage-withstand capability is 16 V.

The device provides both overcurrent and overtemperature protection. It's designed to accommodate the increasing demands for the longer run times of cellular phones, notebook computers, PDAs, and other portable electronics.

Its narrow, low-profile form factor (23.1 by 5.3 by 0.8 mm) and axial leads enable it to be welded directly to battery cells. This conserves valuable space in portable electronic applications. The VLP270 can be provided in either bulk or tape-and-reel packages. UL, CSA, and TUV certifications are pending. The VLP270 costs $0.25 each in volume lots.
