32-bit MCUs Boost Efficiency in Single/Dual Motor Control Systems

Aug. 28, 2014
32-bit MCUs, based on a 40-nm process, designed to enhance efficiency and achieve higher safety levels for single and dual HEV/EV motor control systems.

Renesas' RH850/C1x Series of 32-bit MCUs, based on a 40-nm process, are designed to enhance efficiency and achieve higher safety levels for HEV/EV motor control systems. The series features the RH850/C1M, which incorporates a single R/D Converter for single motor control, and the RH850/C1H, which has two R/D Converters for dual motor control. The new devices can be used with the RAA270000KFT RH850 Family PMICs (currently available in sample quantities), which integrates into one device all the power supply systems required for MCU operation. Supporting ISO 26262 functional safety standards, the MCUs adopt the lockstep method3 for the main CPU, and support data error detection and correction by providing ECC functions for each memory system. A diagnostic function has also been added to the built-in RDC2, and an integrated ECM manages error handling. User implementation of functional safety is supported with the watchdog, power supply monitoring, and reset generation functions of the RAA270000KFT PMIC products and the kits that include the new ICs. Samples of the RH850/C1H and RH850/C1M MCUs are scheduled to be available from the beginning of CY2015, priced at $45 and $50 per unit, respectively. Mass production is scheduled to begin in May 2016.
