Dual LED Backlit Displays Employ Novel NVG Filtering

Oct. 19, 2011
With no compromise to daylight operations, the Skyquest family of dual-LED backlit displays for use on airborne platforms provides a unique way of delivering night vision goggle (NVG) filtering.

With no compromise to daylight operations, the Skyquest family of dual-LED backlit displays for use on airborne platforms provides a unique way of delivering night vision goggle (NVG) filtering. Traditional NVG filtering uses a filter on the full display area, which dims the image and adds an undesirable green tint that’s visible in both daytime and nighttime operations. On Skyquest Displays, the filter is removed from the front of the screen and filtering occurs in the backlight behind the LCD. A toggle switch enables the selection of either white daylight LEDs or green NVG-filtered LEDs. The result is a very high brightness, full color image readable in direct sunlight during daytime operations, and a fully filtered display ideal for NVG operations. Available in configurations for the displays ranges from 10.4” to 20”. For more info, call Jerri-Lynne Charbonneau at CURTISS-WRIGHT CONTROLS EMBEDDED COMPUTING, Ontario, Canada. (613) 254-5112.
