Four additions to the Pericom Semiconductor high-definition multimedia interface (HDMI) switch portfolio expand the company's capabilities with high-bandwidth, differential signal solutions for multi-source or multi-sink video applications. The switches comply with the latest release (June 2006) of the HDMI standard, Rev. 1.3. They are well-suited for applications including TV, monitors, set-top boxes, switch boxes, and game consoles. With 16-bit-deep color support (3.3 Gbits/s), these switches can be used to connect various high-performance, high-definition sources to a single HD video display. Housed in lead-free, "green" packaging, these solutions provide bandwidth of up to 5.4 Gbits/s, low insertion loss, high electrostatic discharge tolerance, and ideal pin-out.
The switches — the PI3HDMI412FT-A, PI3HDMI1212, PI3HDMI413-A, and PI3HDMI414 — have been designed with Pericom's patent-pending technology. This technology achieves the specific impedance required for HDMI/DVI signals to minimize reflections and insertion loss, while still maintaining differential impedance requirements per revision 1.3. When designing a sink-system, differential impedance must be maintained only from the sink HDMI input connector to the Pericom switch. The switches also handle ESD protection on each HDMI connector up to 8 kV contact protection.
The PI3HDMI412FT-A, PI3HDMI413-A, PI3HDMI414, and PI3HDMI1212 are in full production today, with prices ranging from $1.40 to $3.00 in 10,000 unit quantities. Samples, datasheets, application notes, IBIS models, and additional information can be found at the company's website.
