Designed to operate with SONET/SDH lasers and optical modulators and claimed to dramatically lower the cost and simplify the implementation of OC-48/STM-16 optoelectronic modules, the V-Drive 2.5 family of 2.5-Gb/s optoelectronic driver ICs embraces five new voltage and current drivers that operate from a 5V supply and dissipate less than 1.1W. Three of the devices- namely, VSC7923, VSC7926 and VSC7927- are 2.5-Gb/s laser driver ICs that typically deliver up to 60 mA of programmable modulation current and 50 mA of programmable bias current. The other two devices are modulator (voltage) drivers: VSC 7934, a drop-in replacement for legacy devices; and VSC7937, offering on-chip selectable data reclocking.V-Drive 2.5 devices are also said to operate effectively at lower speeds and to be suitable for 622-Mb/s (OC-12/STM-4) and gigabit applications. Packaging options include 24-pin metal glass and 24-pin ceramic, formed or straight leads.
