Representing an extension of the firm's highly popular Z80 8-bit µP family, the eZ80 line of synthesizable cores is designed to deliver embedded access to the Internet and to provide OEMs with a clear migration path from existing Z80-based products to new applications such as Internet appliances. To help OEMs rapidly develop these new applications, the eZ80 cores meld together both microprocessor and DSP capabilities, as well as an optimized TCP/IP stack and a linear addressing capability that supports up to 16 MB of addressing space. The eZ80 is four times faster at the same clock speed than traditional Z80s. And the eZ80 processor, being a synthesizable core, allows rapid porting to any process geometry to help OEMs tailor cost and performance to market needs. Available configurations include UARTs, DMA, serial I/O, analog modems, real-time clock, and more. Subsequent versions of the eZ80 family will include 16- and 32-bit engines.
